THESE FOUR LATINX ARTISTS WERE inviTED to this curatorial endeavor SPECIFICALLY FOR THEIR raw AESTHETIC and their intuitive way of working. They pull together elements of culture, religion, and history to inspire a new interpretation of familiar objects, words, figures, and concepts. within each artist’s work are varying styles and techniques, spanning a variety of subjects. Though this exhibition allows for only a small sample, Each artist offers us their work through a specific lens: ana, the whimsical “e(gg)xistentialist,” brings us her perspective of feminism and culture, often with a somewhat jaded sense of humor. Andrei, the activist, shines a pertinent light on very dark and brutal situations occurring against humanity. Mauro, the resurrector of history, revives famous icons and characters with abundant color & expressive gesture. Octavio, the poet, combines the written word with images & forms to create visual poems. As different as They are, they all share an affinity for fusing together fragments and remnants of their physical & mental environments to create a new type of drama in each piece.
